Цель: Исходя из целей обучения иностранному языку направленной на развитие у обучающихся иноязычной коммуникативной компетенции и развитие личности посредствам использования воспитательного потенциала иностранного языка, содержания лексико-грамматического и тематического материала УМК «Spotlight -11» сформулирована тема и цели урока «Should it be compulsory to learn a foreign language at school?». Данный урок завершает изучение темы «Общение». Целью урока является выход на неподготовленную устную речь, а также создание условий для осмысления учащимися необходимости изучения иностранных языков как способа коммуникации, познания мира и самореализация в нём.

Задачи: 1. Моделирование условий реальной жизни с учётом сферы интересов учащихся для формирования социального опыта. 2. Предоставление учащимся возможности апробировать различные способы собственного поведения в игровой ситуации,создание условий и необходимости поиска и нахождения адекватных средств для решения поставленной задачи. 3. Формирование социальной активной позиции личности учащегося, способствующей выработке собственного отношения к обсуждаемой проблеме, развивается самосознание. 4. Повышение эффективности обучения за счёт более активного вовлечения учащихся в процесс не только получения, но и использования знаний. 5. Овладение учащимися социально-профессиональными ролями через их включение в сложный мир межличностных и межгрупповых взаимодействий.

Урок английского языка в 11 классе по теме

“Should it be compulsory to learn a foreign language at school?”

Цели:

1.Развитие коммуникативной компетенции учащихся средствами английского языка.

Задачи:

Образовательные:

1. Закрепление и расширение лексических навыков по теме «Should it be compulsory to learn a foreign language at school?».

2. Развитие навыков работы с текстом.

3.Развитие навыков говорения.

4.Закрепление и расширение навыков выражения своего мнения по теме и умения вести дискуссию.

Развивающие задачи:

1. Развитие навыка общения на английском языке.

2. Развитие умения работать с новой информацией.

3. Развитие навыка анализа ситуации с разных позиций.

4. Развитие навыков самостоятельного осмысления текста.

Воспитательные задачи:

1. Сформировать личное отношение ученика к обсуждаемой проблеме.

I. Good morning! Sit down, please. Nice to meet you. How are you? Are you ready to start our lesson?

II. First of all, I would like you to listen to the song and make a prediction what the theme of our lesson is.

III. (Slide 2) OK, the theme of our lesson is “Should it be compulsory to learn a foreign language at school?”

(Slide 3) The purpose of our lesson is to discuss the necessity of learning a foreign language at school.

(Slide 4). The task of our lesson is to find the answers for the question:

- Is it compulsory for all school students in our country?

-What is our own attitude to this issue?

We are going to read, talk about different attitude to learning a foreign language at school and try to look at this issue from different points of view.

IV. Well, you know what we are going to do. Look at this list. (Slide5). Do you study any foreign language at school from this list? Why do people learn foreign languages? Now, let`s have brainstorm activity. I ask you to divide in pairs. You should make up the clusters. You have 3 minutes. The time is up. What are your ideas? Share your thoughts with the rest of us. The 1st pair start from you. The 2nd pair. What can you add? S n. What are your ideas? Well done.

S1 I think people learn foreign languages to communicate with other, travel abroad, read books, listen to music.

S 2 To develop confidence. Learning a foreign language is an incredibly rewarding experience. You will get to overcome some of your fears and doubts, learn more about yourself.

S 3 A foreign language might just be the door that’s waiting to be opened. Why not leave for a few years and study in London? Or perhaps find your dream job in the USA?

S 4 Music, movies, food, literature, poetry, theatre, fine arts: the list of fabulous things that culture brings to our lives is endless. You might have heard that language and culture are two sides of the same coin: I would tend to agree with this. (and so on)

I. Well done. You have spoken why people learn foreign languages. But what about you? Why do you learn English? Fill in a questionnaire. Read 4 statements and put offered variants in order of their importance. Use numbers from 1 to 4. Start from the most important. You have four minutes. The time is up. Would you like to pass me your questionnaire, please?

II. You have filled in a questionnaire. All students in our school learn a foreign language. Moreover, it is compulsory. However, some people have another opinion. Divide in three groups for four. Open your books at page 110. The task for groups: read the text and complete the table. You have 5 minutes to do it.

III. It`s time to check. You have read the text and completed the tables. What are the arguments for a compulsory foreign language at school? Against?

Students pass their questionnaire.

II. Students join to the group as they like. They get two tables: 1) It is compulsory to learn a foreign language at school. 2) It is not compulsory to learn a foreign language at school. For 5 minutes, they read the text and complete the table. (Appendix 3,4) (Slide 9)

I. You have read the text to get more information. I see you are ready to discuss the question “Should it be compulsory to learn a foreign language at school?” I propose a discussion in the form of talk show
"Public Opinion" (Slide 11). As you see, people have different opinions on this issue. Your task is to discuss the problem from different points of view. There are three groups. I have prepared and distributed the roles for you. 1) “Sociologists” You had a poll and you need to analyze and prepare a presentation. (They get students` questionnaires). 2)”Reporters”. Your task is to interview passers-by on the streets of the city. 3) And all other participants of the talk show “Public opinion”. You have 3 minutes.

II. Let` start our talk show. S1 is the host of the program.

III. We are press for time. It`s the end of the lesson and the time for reflection. As you can see, opinions differ. And what about you? What do you think? I ask you to fill in “Observer evaluation form” and provide an assessment of the work of Groups.

IV. There are three tasks. You can choose one. Don`t forget to write down your home task.

1. Conduct a poll on the subject of our lesson and prepare a presentation.

2. Prepare your speech according your own attitude to the problem of our lesson.

3. Write a letter to the Government about your attitude toward the subject.

I. Students listen to teacher`s explanation. Then take a card with a role. (Appendix5) “Sociologists” take places in front of the computer. ”Reporters” go out into the corridor. All the rest join in two groups “for” and “against” and take seats in the classroom.

II.S1 (Greet, introduce himself) Why don`t we get started? We`re here today to talk about if it is compulsory to learn a foreign language at school. The goal of this discussion is to know public opinion. At our meeting today, we have Pavel Voronov, who is a school headmaster. Also we have Roman Rubin, a member of a political party LDPR.
